Is Your Cup Overflowing?

7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John 4:7-14

A cup can do two things. Receive and give. People do not want the cup. They desire what the cup holds. God has made us to be a cup, a container that He can fill and pour out on those who are hurting. The world hurts when men and women of God tell God no. They resist His call and leading. The cup tells the river no. No, you can’t fill me with living water. When people cry out to God, God sends them someone that He chooses to fill up with himself. They are cups that He can continue to fill with living water from heaven. They pour out upon others and bring healing. They are all around us. Always looking to do the work of the Lord, with an open heart they go to the hurting and needing. Their only motivation is love for God and compassion for people. Love keeps the water flowing. It is love that causes them to want to sacrifice. That drives them to work hard. That drives them to their knees and asks for God’s mercy for those they love. They are the cups. A mother who does not give up on her children. A father who is fighting for his family. A person who is providing food for the hungry. A Pastor who prays and uplifts his congregation. They are the cup in the hand of God. To be filled and poured upon the hurting. Your cup should overflow. There are so many hurting people that need God to help them. God can not if you will not. If you turn the other way instead of helping, you place a lid on your cup. You are closed to the living water that is pouring down from heaven to heal those who are hurting or in need. We should all be like Jesus. Let compassion rule our life. Let it move and shape our actions. When we tap into the power of love, it is impossible to keep God from not moving. The living water pours. The cups overflow. The water falls upon the wounded and brings healing. Let your cup overflow. Lift up others. Watch how many miracles God will do through you. You are God’s faithful cup.

Prayer: Lord You know why You chose me. I am nothing without You. You fill me with Your love and glory. Use me to touch the world. It is a privilege to be a cup in Your hand. Fill me Holy Spirit. Bring the hurting to me. I will release what You give me God. I will pour the water that heals and restores upon them. Your living water. Thank You Jesus. My King. I worship You forever. In Jesus name, amen.
